Archie

A bit more progress made today. There are a lot of colours in Archie's coat which need blending together. My palette has consisted of oranges, browns and even pinks and purples to try and capture it properly.

He's looking really good Sally.

For my recent horse portraits I've had to remove head collars but I really think its often easier to draw the tack rather than guess what's underneath (shadows etc) - what do you reckon?

It's faaaar easier to paint in the tack because however well you know anatomy, each animal is different so it's tricky to "make things up". I make it plain on my website that it's harder to remove tack, but I haven't had too many ask lately. With my luck I will now though! Haha! :-D

By the way, one thing you can ask is that when people take photos and if they're not in an area where it's safe to have the horse loose, ask them to hold the horse with the lead rope around it's neck with no head collar on if they are wanting it without head collar. Hope that helps!
